Guess what? We DON'T need to go to California and visit Napa for great, beautiful, Photos of the North Georgia Vineyard's and Wineries, North Georgia Mountain view from Kaya Vineyards, scenic wineries and delicious wines... There are amazing wineries just an hour north of Atlanta!!

"What??" you say??

Yes!! One hour North!! Perfect for a girls getaway, a romantic weekend celebration, a special event or just a fun vacation. We went to stay at our awesome Lake House at Lake Chatuge, The Bear Den Chatuge for a few days and it was the perfect escape for a quaint, romantic getaway to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. We sipped our wine on their private deck overlooking the woods and a small pond, went hiking and then spent two days exploring several award winning vineyards!! Could it be any more convenient??). Sip award winning wine, enjoy a delicious meal and soak in the views of the North Georgia Mountains and Western North Carolina Mountains... you will enjoy it! Georgia's wine country is quickly becoming known for it's fine family vineyards. The wine industry in the State of Georgia is booming. North Georgia is home to a wide variety wineries and vineyards. Many varieties of grapes can thrive in our mountain microclimate and the wineries are happy to show off their award-winning wines.

Cottage Vineyard & Winery

Our first day, we visited Cottage Vineyard and Kaya Vineyards (photos below) on the same afternoon and we were immediately hooked. Beautiful rolling hills, gorgeous countryside and great staff at both places sharing their knowledge of wine making, the area and the wines. We met some other couples as we sipped wine and enjoyed the view. Of course, we purchased wines at both places and in the several weeks since we have been home, we have reminisced about our trip with each bottle of wine that we have opened. It is like recreating our weekend with every bottle! I love it!

Kaya Vineyards

This vineyard might be one of my favorites that we visited. I loved the view, the wines were Y.U.M.M.Y and the food was 5 star. It was delicious. We ordered sandwiches off their menu and I would share the photo but we ate them so fast, I have nothing to share except an image of an empty plate. :-(. So, here are a few others.

Cavendar Creek Vineyards

While this one was closed, the caretaker was onsite and he generously allowed us to wander around. We enjoyed speaking with him for a few minutes and he gave us a quick tour of the attached cottage and showed us the tasting room. With promises of an upcoming visit, we grudgingly left this gorgeous area and headed for home.

Frogtown Cellars

We LOVED this vineyard... we did not taste any wines here but we walked around and looked at the many awards they have won for their wines. It WILL be a place we would go back and taste... we could not this time around because we were heading back to Atlanta and did not want to drink and drive! Never a good idea!! So, we wandered and enjoyed the sights.

A few that we did not get to visit but will on our next go round are

Three Sisters Vineyards - We drove by this as it is right next door (literally) to Frogtown Cellars but it was closed and the gate was shut so this will be for another visit as well.
Wolf Mountain Vineyards - This one is supposed to be AMAZING but it was closed the day we were in Dahlonega so we must go back. :) Tip: Their Sunday Brunch is rumored to be the best anywhere and a click on that link will get you to their Brunch menu. YUM!! We drive by this one to peek and just the entrance is AHmazing!!
Yonah Mountain Vineyards - We did not see this one at all but have also heard great things about it. I encourage you to visit their website to get a sneak peak of what you can expect. WOW.

Need a place to stay? Stay at The Bear Den Chatuge. You WON"T be disappointed!!

With all the wineries, you might not have time for anything else but ... if you want a beautiful hike or a little taste of nature, go visit Smithgall Woods for a beautiful hike and some time outdoors.

I loved this not yet blooming sunflower field... there was one flower that was ahead of the rest and it peeked out over the other plants as though checking out the scenery and surveying the area.
