Capturing the Magic of Spring: Newborn Photoshoot with Two Big Sisters

The arrival of a new baby is truly magical, especially when it coincides with the freshness and renewal of spring. In Atlanta, Georgia,

where cherry blossoms bloom and the air is filled with the scent of budding flowers, it provides the perfect backdrop for welcoming a new family member. It was a joy to photograph this baby girl, especially since I had previously captured both older sisters for their newborn photos. During my recent visit to their home, seeing the canvas photos of both girls from their newborn shoots filled me with joy. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to document this new chapter for this beautiful family.

On a beautiful spring day last week, I had the pleasure of capturing the precious moments shared between two big sisters and their adorable newborn baby sister. The love and excitement radiating from the siblings were palpable as they eagerly welcomed their newest family member into their arms. As someone who has had the privilege of photographing each of these girls as newborns, it was heartwarming to see how they've grown and to witness their bond strengthening with the arrival of their baby sister.

The Setting:

On a beautiful spring mid-day afternoon (Yes.... high noon!! You photographers know what I am talking about!!) we ventured into this family's beautiful backyard to find the perfect backdrop for our photoshoot. From lush gardens covered in ivy to white bridges crossing a creek, and even playsets, we were spoiled for choices when it came to fun, family-friendly locations that perfectly captured this fun family.

The Wardrobe:

For this photoshoot, we opted for soft pastel colors and delicate fabrics that complemented the gentle beauty of spring. The big sisters were dressed in coordinating floral dresses, while the newborn baby girl was swathed in a cozy knitted wrap or a simple cream knit outfit. The result? A picture-perfect ensemble that exuded warmth and tenderness.

Fun photos while the littlest sister had a "snack". We played outside and captured some fun, action shots. ;)

The Moments:

As the camera clicked away, we captured the most precious moments shared between the siblings. From tender cuddles to playful giggles, each snapshot was a testament to the unbreakable bond between sisters. Whether they were gently cradling their baby sister or showering her with kisses, it was clear that these siblings shared a love that would only grow stronger with time.

Big sisters... look at how sweet they are to each other!! I love this!!

In the end, our spring newborn photoshoot in Atlanta, Georgia, was more than just a photo session—it was a celebration of family, love, and the beauty of new beginnings. And as we packed up our cameras and bid farewell to this wonderful family, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to capture a small piece of their story.

Taking senior portraits has always been a source of joy for me. It's a time filled with excitement as the seniors look forward to their future adventures, milestones, accomplishments, and new goals. I love capturing these moments. This senior portrait session is significant since it is my daughter Hannah. She recently graduated from Belmont University with Magna Cum Laude honors after attending the school for four years, beginning during the 2020 lockdown. She double-majored in Creative and Entertainment Industry Studies and Public Relations, and I couldn't be more proud of her.

On a beautiful spring day in May, we spent some time wandering around the campus and had a great experience. We visited all the usual spots where seniors like to take photos, such as the Fountain, The Fisher Center, and The Belmont Tower. Each location was enchanting and added to the magical experience. I even had my zoom lens during the graduation ceremony and captured a few shots of Hannah shaking the president's hand. It was fantastic!

I have been delighted to witness her growth and development into a brilliant, intelligent, and gifted young woman with a promising future ahead of her. Her time at Belmont has been exceptional, providing her with opportunities in the music industry that she would not have obtained elsewhere. We have so much to be thankful for.

However, even with meticulous planning, there is always the possibility that a toddler with a mind of their own may not be interested in participating. It can be frustrating for parents but rest assured, family and children photographers encounter this every day!! Don't worry! We know what to do! :)

They offer an authentic representation of our lives, in contrast to the 'perfect' families we see on social media. They serve as a reminder of the joys and challenges of family life, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

As an Emory University Senior Photographer, it is always a joy to visit the Emory campus for Senior Portraits! Emory University is such a gorgeous campus in the heart of downtown Atlanta and has so many beautiful photo spots for senior portraits! Emory has many beautiful marble buildings surrounded by beautiful landscaping and lush green lawns. Senior Sessions are always so much fun; every Emory University campus visit is different and exciting. Of course, each Emory University Senior Session is also different and exciting: the locations and the time of year are different, and most significantly, the graduates are so different from each other, so each session is unique!

As an Emory University Senior Photographer, I have wandered around campus, often doing group shots, individual shots, photographs at the front gate, and even photos at different fraternity houses. We started our session at the famous Emory University front gate and captured traditional photos with her gown and the black gate. In this case, Ellen is a graduate with an Art History degree. Hence, we ventured to the quad and took photos in front of Micheal C Carols Hall and the Michael C Carols Museum on the Emory University Campus.

A fun traditional location for senior photos on the Emory Campus is in front of the Administration building. There is a blue and yellow banner with the school name on it, handing in the alcove just on top of a marble staircase, and the entire building is marble, so the seniors in their cap and gowns make a great photo!

These images were so important to Ellen because of her Art History degree and interest in Art History. Her cream-colored dress looked lovely with the cream Georgia marble of the building and the beautiful marble stonework near the entrance of Carlos Hall. Carlos Hall houses the Art History Department and connects to the Carols Museum (which we photographed in front of).

Beautiful, Creative, and Inspiring Hiawassee Georgia Family Portraits

A family of four children, a dog and several cows gathered for a photo session for the cover of Lake Chatuge Living Magazine. The parents were amazing. The father is a doctor residing in Hiawassee, while the mother devotes her time to homeschooling and nurturing her four children's love for learning and music. The children have gained local recognition for performing together from a very young age at weddings and other events in the area. The youngest is still in school locally in north Georgia while the three oldest are either working or studying around the southeast. This family has been living on a working farm where the children help with various chores such as feeding the cows and taking care of the dogs. This has taught them valuable life skills, including self-sufficiency and the importance of helping others.

As the local photographer for the Lake Chatuge Living Magazine that serves Hiawassee, Young Harris and Hayesville, I have enjoyed meeting these amazing families. This particular family was at the top of my list!

If I could ever adopt a whole entire family, this would ABSOLUTELY be that family!!! I LOVE them! We had a blast. It was a super hot June day and we had photos in the backyard where it was a children's playground oasis ... rope swing, rock climbing wall, pool with a slide AND a waterfall, cabana with a grill, jungle gym, beautifully landscaped and even an in ground trampoline!! Whaaat? Yup... Amazing. All this plus a fun, happy, energetic and simply lovely group of people. Everyone was fun with a great attitude.

As part of every photoshoot on location, I first look at what I have to work with. Lighting is always number one (even through I bring my own off camera flash for fill flash). Once I know the direction I want to shoot, I look at props and things for people to stand on, sit on, lean on or even hide behind. This yard had so many options it was a photographers nirvana!! Getting kids (and adults!) to move, laugh and have fun during a photo shoot is my goal every time. Everyone enjoys themselves and there are some super fun, lifestyle, non-posed candid photos. It is my favorite type of shoot!

Are you visiting Lake Chatuge or the surrounding area this year? There are SO many things to do here and I am frequently fielding questions from my photo clients about the best places around here to go hiking or check out local waterfalls or trails. I have compiled a list of hiking trails and they vary greatly so read on and take your pick! I would love to hear about your experiences on any of these trails. Two of my favorite things about being a photographer are that I am around amazing, beautiful people ALL the time and that I am almost ALWAYS outside doing my "Job". I use the hashtag #myofficeisinthepark all the time!! :) As such, I have a huge list of amazing places in Hiawassee and Hayesville to go and hike and maybe even take photos. LOL. This is a general list of my go to spots for hiking and outdoor activities in the area. I thought you might enjoy this too if you are visiting Lake Chatuge! When I am photographing my Hayesville and Hiawassee vacation families, I hear lots of feedback and these are some of their favorite's in the area Client & Personal Favorites - just a short drive from Lake Chatuge

Bell Mountain - (Hiawassee) A spectacular view rather than a hike but a must see. Easy but crazy drive up the mountain and a very short walk to the top. Lots of stairs but not a hike at all. Just like a stairmaster session on steroids. :)
High Shoals Falls Trail (30 Min South)
Big Laurel Falls / Melton Falls (30 Min East)
Rufus Morgan Falls (45 Min. West - just outside of
Franklin NC)
Helton Creek Falls (Helen Ga 30 Min South)
The Jackrabbit Mountain Bike and Hiking Trail System in Hiawassee Georgia offers about 15 miles of trails, many of which border Lake Chatuge. Great for walking or Mountain bikers can get their wheels dusty on approximately 14 miles of bike-friendly trails. This is one of my favorite trail systems because it is right on the lake and so so pretty and peaceful. Plus it is about 15 degrees cooler here in the summer because of all the shade so you can walk in the August heat and still be ok! Bring your dogs on a leash and they will love it too
Bell Mountain ( Not a trail but more of an observation platform) A MUST DO!!!! Rugged mountain top with graffitied rocks & an observation deck providing panoramic 360 degree views of the surrounding lake and mountains. You drive up the mountain and can park at the base. This is not a hike as much as just a lookout. There is an observation area that you can climb stairs to a viewing platform. 900 Bell Mountain Park Rd., Hiawassee GA 30546
Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden / Hamilton Gardens @ Lake Chatuge - One of my favorite
spots around Lake Chatuge for family photos!!! It is a beautiful place year round with gentle rolling paths among the HUGE rhododendron's and other native plants. It lies on the banks of Lake Chatuge and I guarantee that you won't find a prettier place to relax and unwind than at the
Hamilton Gardens. They also do loads of concerts and activities at this park so make sure and check them out. The Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden is the only public botanical garden in the northeast Georgia mountains specializing in Rhododendrons and Native Azaleas, located on the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds property, 1311 Music Hall Road, Hiawassee, Georgia. Many varieties of rhododendrons as well as native wildflowers, plants and trees on 33 acres on the banks of Lake Chatuge.

Brasstown Bald is Georgia’s Highest Mountain Point, rising 4784 feet above sea level, is a few minutes from downtown Hiawassee, Georgia. Surrounded by the Chattahoochee - Oconee National Forest, its cloud level observation deck offers stunning 360-degree views of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and valleys. There is a great 1/2 Mile trail to the top of Brasstown Bald which is paved but steep and offers amazing views! On clear days, the spectacular 360-degree view from the top of Brasstown Bald allows you to see four states: Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina , and South Carolina.

La ke Chatuge Trail - A one mile trail around the lake, relatively level (watch out for roots) and weaving in and out of coves.
Beautiful Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa offers more than nine miles of interpretive hiking trails, known as the Miller Trek. Their lounge area has great drinks and full bar, a huge stone fireplace that has fires blazing in the winter time and loads of great board games to whittle away the time on a lazy weekend day. Oh... don't forget the gift shop that actually has really cute stuff!! :)
The Appalachian Trail (AT), which stretches from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin, Maine, runs through part of Towns County. Lake Chatuge and the community of Hiawassee are part of the Appalachian Trail Community partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

What makes great real estate photography?

1). Lighting - Always important and starts with the time of day to deciding between HDR or Flambient lighting to properly showcase the property. We do both kinds!

2). Great post processing - quality images processed clearly and without filters. For short-term rentals, we are can edit out unruly cords, fix uneven artwork, or edit out small spots that the cleaner missed. This is such a great option to make images really clean up nicely.

3). Fast Turn Around - 24 - 72 hours!

4). Quality images - What kind of photos are delivered? Wide angle or close up's? A mixture of both? A Airbnb Property might want a mixture of both while a empty listing might want to focus only on wide angle shots. HDR Processing with natural light for sharp, well lit, quality images or Flambient photography using artificial lighting? Both are great and equally good but it is important to decide which one for each property.

5). Staging - The angles to shoot from to highlight the best features and the ability to quickly scan the room and see what small things can be moved or added to improve the appearance of a property.

6). Floor Plan - Good quality images are vital but offering floor plans will allow potential buyers to view the complete picture of the property.

7). Lifestyle photography when shooting Airbnb or potential rental properties, we frequently include lifestyle images if asked. This includes charcuterie boards, wine glasses, coffee in mugs, etc. This allows potential renters to see what a night hanging out might actually look like and is a great add on feature for your property.

We all met downtown at West Side Provisions on the Saturday of his graduation from Georgia Tech to take some senior photos as well as extended family photos since everyone was in town to celebrate Chris! To say this was a fun and great shoot is putting it mildly. They are a wonderful family full of joy and pride for their son and brother. We did cap and gown portraits, sibling photos, full family photos, extended family photos... you name it and we captured the combination. Just a few of my Seniors from this past fall... Oh my!!! Our future is in good hands with these amazing kids.

As a mother with two children currently in college, these photos mean so much to me. Capturing these kids as they are launching off into their bright futures is simply precious. I love the excitement and anticipation. I can appreciate the nerves as well, from both the parents as well and the seniors! Their future literally is right in front of them and there are so many directions they can go. As parents, we have worried, loved, laughed and cried through 18 years and now we are letting them go. It is HARD but also full of joy and excitement for us because we know what adventures lie in store for our children.

One of my favorite Senior photo sessions are when I go to a college campus and take College Graduation photos. One of them this past fall was a couple graduating from Georgia Tech. One was receiving his four year degree and the other a Masters Degree from Georgia Tech. In addition, we just happened to see Buzz out and about on campus and scored some photos with the graduates in their cap and gown and with Buzz from Georgia Tech! WOW. how fun was that??? Alot!!! :) lol.

K Boyer Photography is a member of Lake Chatuge Chamber of Commerce in Hiawassee, GA and as a member, it is a priviledge each year to donate to the Lake Chatuge Chamber of Commerce Silent Auction Fund Raiser. This is how I came to meet Peggy, the winner of my auction item. She won the bid for my mini session and requested to use it for real estate photography instead of family photos (she is an empty nester too!). So, I loaded up my camera and lighting gear and headed out to Hiawassee to take some Instagram worthy real estate photos! She wanted images of the entire apartment but also the small, quaint details that make it such an inviting and comfortable home. In addition to the inside, we captured some winter landscape photos of her dock on Lake Chatuge as well as the beautiful firepit area that shows off the mountains in the distance and the lake in the foreground. What a perfect spot for an afternoon fire, 'smores or cocktails. I can also image that it is the perfect place to watch the fireworks over the waters of Lake Chatuge on July 4th or New Years Eve!!

After many many years of photographing families, I have picked up a few favorite tips from all the various outfits, families and personalities. Below is just a very small sample of my favorite outfits from last fall... So many cute ones!! Love the variety and simplicity of all of these outfits.

YES! My favorite tips and take aways for what to wear in Atlanta for fall family photos.

Be comfy and be you - Each of these outfit choices reflects the families that are wearing them.
Pick a base color and add pops of color or simple patterns around it. You can also start with one base piece and go from there.
Add Textured Fabrics. You can't have too much. My favorites are lace, corduroy, knits, chambray, gauzy or crepe fabrics, velvet, Swiss dots and waffle cloth.
Stick to one or two patterns and have solid colors and textures for the rest.
Long Flowy dresses for moms and little girls are wonderful. Movement in these is simply gorgeous and they are very forgiving
Neutral pallets of soft creams and neutral colors are lovely and timeless.
Accessories are wonderful! A scarf, a vest, a jacket, a bowtie... layering is wonderful!
Think classic, simple and timeless

A few No's

Avoid short skirts and if little girls have dresses (pants are better but..) they MUST wear bloomers.
Try to avoid low cut dress and tops, tight clothing and bare arms.
Do your best to limit the number of patterns. Add texture instead!
Stripes: Skinny and close together stripes don't look good. (EXCEPTION: Thick stripes or skinny stripes that are spaced out look amazing!)

Tips for Gorgeous Outdoor Photos

Being outdoors in the summer sun is a great setting for some fun photos of you and your loved ones. In order to get the best results from your session, there are a few pro tips to think about or bring for your family session before you step in front of my lens!

Most Importantly... HAVE FUN with your family! Pack the patience and just enjoy some fun family time. There are no "rules" and we will capture lighthearted, relaxed fun. The hard work of getting ready for the shoot is done and now it is time to simply enjoy. We will play games, sing songs and act silly so just enjoy.

Choose your time of day. Since midday can be scorching, we can work together to plan your shoot early in the morning or just before the sun sets to capture some great lighting. However, if you have young children and early or late doesn't work for their schedule, no worries! We can adjust accordingly and work with the best time for your family. I can shoot any time of the day and find the best lighting! (The photo on the right was shot during the full midday sun!)

Bring along some tissues & concealer powder. Unless it's a cool day, you're probably going to sweat. Bring along some tissues for dabbing off the sweat and your concealer powder for touch ups.

Stay hydrated. Posing for pictures may not seem like hard work but in the hot sun, you don't have to move around much to be affected by the heat. Make sure you bring lots of water and other hydrating beverages, and drink up often.

Full Tummies! Make sure everyone in your family (or you!) are well fed and have a full tummy. Feel free to bring along a snack to help keep everyone happy and smiling.

Apply makeup sparingly. You want that fresh, sun kissed look in your photos so don’t overdo your makeup application.

What you wear matters. Choose clothing that is comfortable and fits your body shape. Feel free to incorporate accessories such as a hat but don’t let it overwhelm the photo.

As a photographer, I am constantly reading, taking classes, watching videos and doing everything I can to further my craft. I just saw this video about composition and while there were great tips in the video (I love this photographers work!), I was also very impressed with the MODEL in this video. It is completely normal to feel a little awkward while taking senior portraits. Many seniors tend to feel self-conscious when it is ALL about them! :). It's ok! Now is your time to relax, have fun and SHINE.

I am big on visual examples and the model in this video moves so beautifully and easily that I had to share this with you. In photographing seniors, these sorts of moves would be wonderful and so helpful. They were slow, soft, natural and simple. If you are interested and have the time, enjoy this video and gather some ideas!!

Here are my takeaways from this model AND my top tips for a sensational senior photo session

EYES: Use your eyes to express emotion. When you smile naturally your whole face lights up and your eyes look bright and awake. I will give you prompts to help you smile naturally but feel free to practice smiling in the mirror and use different expressions to see what looks best. Also, the model in this video is not always looking at the camera. It is ok to look away.

MOVE: I Love love love photos with movement!!!! Staying stationary can sometimes produce a very staged and cheesy look. Just because you are sitting or standing still doe not mean you can't change the angle of your body to create a look that is fresh and inspired. Try leaning into the camera slightly to appear more engaged, shift y our weight from left to right, or simply move your chin slightly up and down for different shots as this gives us a variety of facial expressions to work with.

POSING TIPS:

Watch her hands... she softly touch her face and she is moving them around on jacket or in her hair
She is almost never standing flat footed (both feet squarely facing the camera with the entire foot on the ground).
Tilted shoulders... she is always dropping one shoulder or the other
Leaning back... creating an "S" shape to her body by leaning back
she is great at keeping her chin down

SMILING: She is not always (actually almost never!) smiling directly at the camera. Now, I love full on smiles right at me. But, I also love the soft smile or the soft expressions of a neutral face.

RELAX: Great photos happen when you are relaxed and confident. Le the excitement of your photo session show through the lens as you take a moment to breathe, relax and just enjoy the process. You may feel silly but we will do everything we can to help you feel more comfortable.

BREATHE: This may sound obvious but breathing is key to capturing a natural look. Take time to practice taking a deep breath while smiling in front of the mirror. Slowly release the air while holding the smile and notice how your face and eyes settle into a natural and relaxed expression. Allow your eyes to "smile" by focusing on the apples of your cheeks and pressing upwards. When in doubt, just breathe. ;)

BEAUTIFY: This goes for everyone. Ladies, spend some extra time getting your hair blown out, get your makeup done and choose an outfit that makes you look and feel your best. As for the men, take a shower and shave. When you look your best, you feel your best and when you feel your best, you are naturally more confident. Go the extra mile to walk into your senior session feeling confident, attractive, prepared and inspired.

I just watched this video for composition ideas (always learning!) and I LOVE the way this model moves in her shoot. If you are a senior then this is a great video to watch to give you ideas on how to move! I will of course guide you as well.

How to Find the Perfect Photo Shoot Location

Choosing a photo shoot location might seem like a big deal but it really doesn't have to be difficult. I have loads of options for great spots and am happy to guide you in picking the perfect location for your family based on your unique needs. A location usually drives some of the other decisions you will need to make about your shoot so it’s important to choose the right place. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you decide on a location:

Do you have a "theme" in mind? Are you more interested in buildings and shops as a backdrop for your images or is a more casual, parklike setting your style? If you don't know what kind of backdrop you want, ask me! You can also take an afternoon drive around your city for inspiration. It's easy to overlook beautiful spots that are practically in your backyard. Ask family and friends for ideas or reach out to me because I know LOADS of locations in Atlanta and surrounding areas as well as all around Lake Chatuge.

Are you allowed to take pictures there? Make sure that you can legally take pictures at the location that you have in mind and if you are bringing a pet, we will confirm that they are allowed on the property. If it's not public property or available to the public we will need to get permission first. For example, photos anywhere in the City of Roswell require a photography permit. Places like the Botanical Gardens or the High Museum must be approved and require a large fee to use the facilities.

I have loads of ideas for locations if you share with me the look you are going for. While the Botanical Gardens might be a financial stretch or the Hamilton Gardens in Hayesville GA doesn't allow dogs, I have alternative locations that can give you the same look and feel! For example, some cities require a permit or some locations must be shot only during certain times of the day.

Is your location choice good for children? Or parents & Grandparents to easily walk around? Is it accessible? Consider that not all outdoor locations may be available all year round or you might not be able to get to them at all. Your safety is also an important aspect to think about before you decide on a location. Taking pictures on a mountain ledge may look neat but it’s best not to put yourself in harm’s way. Also, who is in your photography party? Can you walk easily or are there lots of stairs. Is everyone in your group able to walk around without difficulty? Is your location choice good for children? Or parents & Grandparents to easily walk around? Murphey Candler Park is wonderful with flat sidewalks and easy strolls.

How do you get to your location? Will it be easy to walk to the meeting area, are you able to change your clothing and touch up your hair and makeup before the shoot? You should also find out whether there is a restroom that’s close enough in case you need it. If you will be changing outfits (seniors!) then it is nice to have a clean bathroom available. We can make do in a lot of situations!

If the location you have chosen has a lot of foot traffic, you need to ask yourself whether you are comfortable being photographed in front of others. If not, you might want to rethink your choice in location. And while it is not location related, another consideration is the time of year. If it is freezing cold, will you want to be outside? How about in July or August? You will have a great tan but you might not stand the heat!!

Zubia_06-2022-Kristin_Boyer_IMG-4021 Make sure that your location doesn’t become a distraction. For example, is there a creek your child will want to jump into immediately or a playground that is calling their name? Your location tells a story so it’s worthwhile to choose a meaningful spot.

An Amazing 2021 in Photos

2021 Year in Review

What a crazy ride for the last two years, right? Oh my! I think that is why I love this vide so very much. I was terrible about getting all my families posted to social media this year... lots of photos, lots of smiles (and some tears!) and a HUGE number of beautiful people but I simply ran out of time (and energy!) to post on Social Media this year. So, this is my replacement ... I could not fit ALL of my kiddos, newborns and families but I tried to pick a good sample from my year. It was as much fun to put this video together as it was to photograph these amazing humans. I loved everything about my year and I hope you can smile too as you watch the joy and connection that was captured by my faithful canon lens. :)

We often get asked what to wear to a family photo shoot. Kate L Photography has graciously shared shared some inspiration boards that I really love! I thought this might help you plan out an outfit or two or give you some ideas to help. This and scheduling is often the most difficult part about family photos! One of my most important tips for family photo outfits is to feel comfortable and make sure it is something that looks like you. If you are not comfortable in whatever you are wearing, your photos will reflect that.

What a beautiful young lady!! We had a lovely time wandering around campus and capturing these special photos for her graduation from Emory University. Cap and Gown, casual outfit and a beautiful dress... we covered it all and had a wonderful time. If you are familiar with the emory Campus, you might notice the flowers are a little different around the gate to campus. I had to do a little photoshopping to get some flowers in there because they had not yet been planted. ;). Beautiful day, beautiful girl and a wonderful time on Emory's campus.

Atlanta Senior Portrait Photographer - North Springs High School

UGA Bound!! This beautiful North Springs High School Graduate is heading to Athens!!! Such a fun shoot. Senior photos are the BEST... it is an honor to meet these young people and see the excitement and sense of adventure that lies before them. These photos were done in a urban setting and we wandered around this downtown area snapping photos in every nook and cranny. It was a blast!

Emory University Seniors Popping Champagne for Graduation

I had such a great time with these guys at Emory University's Campus the weekend before graduation. We spent several hours on campus, primarily at their fraternity house and the Emory sign taking individual photos and group photos of these smart, motivated young men. It was a beautiful day, the campus was alive with activity and after a year of off campus learning, zoom classes and distance learning. It was fantastic to see everyone happy to be together and celebrating this amazing achievement of theirs. This was a group of about 17 young men, class of 2021 Emory University graduates.

WE were at their fraternity house first and took most of the individual photos there as well as a huge mix of group images. Then we headed over to the Emory University Gate and front entrance. A little champagne popping for these graduates was in order and we captured the eruption and spray of the champagne bottles over the top of these young me.

I get lots of questions about what to wear for fall family photos and I wanted to share what this beautiful family did because it is so simple and looks so good and coordinated! The color yellow in these images is perfect with the time of year and all other other outfits coordinate with it. It is simple, classic, timeless and everyone looks good. Mom has a scarf around her neck to give some great visual interest and it pulls everything together.

Fall is such a beautiful time of year and making your clothes work for the season in terms of color takes your images up a notch really works wonders. A great place to start is picking your first "inspiration" piece and then deciding on everything else to coordinate with it. The inspiration piece for this family was the yellow shirt and headband on the youngest daughter. Enjoy!!

You know what gets me excited about work? Capturing girls like this and the icing on the cake... her mother and I went to Dunwoody High School together (Class of 1988!!) and all these years later I am photographing her daughters senior photos. It was one of my MOST favorite shoots... I fell in love with Amber just like I love her mom.... simple pleasures.

Senior Photography is such a super special time for professional photos. Parents and seniors want photos and portraits that they can look back on for years to come. The photos AND the experience are valuable memories to capture such an important phase in their life and these might be the last professional photos they have until their wedding!! WHAT! Every senior deserves special photos and a time all about them... time for pampering, posing that flatters their body styles and poses that highlight and flatter their body style and images that celebrate their style, personality and what makes them who they are.

When COVID hit and turned our world upside down, a lot of photographers around the country started doing Front Porch Portrait Sessions and I did too. We raised thousands of dollars for charity which was awesome! Another side benefit of this was that I met some awesome families while I zipped all over Atlanta and took super quick, 5 minute photos!! HEre is one of the amazing families I met and followed up the front porch portraits with a mini session this fall at Donaldson Banister Farm! They promised their older little boy a donut if he smiled... I think he got his reward, don't you?

Such a beautiful family and such an amazing opportunity to capture these memories. Even the dog was awesome!! I love meeting new people, hanging out loving on these babies and enjoying the company of these great people. This was a studio style newborn session where I bring the props, blankets, hats etc. and set up a "studio" in your home for the baby only, sleepy newborn poses. We also do a combination of family, kids and parents with the newest family member. Because of Covid, we are not doing as many 'traditional' studio sessions but that is ok because I just bring it all to you! We are also waiving the travel fee right now because of Covid. I love spring portraits! Everything is so clean, fresh and new... Cool breezes, warm sunny days, bright clear sunshine, colorful plants.... So much to love and appreciate. One of the best mini session traditions we have are our Easter Mini sessions with a couple os super cute bunnies!!

Our 2021 spring mini sessions are coming up in March at Dunwoody Nature Center. WE will be hosting them on Saturday, March 20th from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. Each session is 20 minutes and includes ALL the digital images!!

I am thrilled to have been featured and interviewed for a blog post Between 2 Trains, co-hosted by Van Pappas and Eric Moss, about my school portrait photography. We talked about all sorts of topics and at the end, they had a little game that I failed miserably!! But it was hilarious!! This is a new podcast series in Chamblee and their goal is to spotlight local business owners and entrepreneurs while at the same time connecting community members.

One of the great joys of my photography business is taking school portrait photos each spring and fall. I love everything about it... the huge variety of children ofall ages, pre-school and up through high school. (Senior portraits too!) I have just a few minutes with each child to make them smile a genuine smile... one t hat captures who they are so their parents can enjoy these timeless images. School photos are almost a rite of passage, aren't they? We look back on them and smile, remember and frequently laugh at ourselves. I love being a preschool portrait photographer in Atlanta GA!
