What is a Lifestyle Photo Shoot?

My job is the best!!!  Truly... I am so grateful that I do what I do and am able to meet and capture so many wonderful, beautiful families and "freeze" time.   I very frequently get asked what the differences are between the lifestyle shoot and a more traditional "Studio" newborn photo session. I am hoping this helps answer that question for you.  If not, I am always happy to chat on the phone and we can figure out the best shoot for your family. 

I offer two types of shoots...

1. a Traditional Newborn Studio Session typically in my Brookhaven studio (or your home for a travel fee) and
2. a Lifestyle Newborn Session exclusively in your home.

What are the main differences between a regular Traditional Newborn Studio Session (AKA "Posed" shoot) and a Lifestyle Shoot? 

The main differences between the two styles of shoots are basically the "poses".  A Traditional Newborn Studio Shoot is more traditional, more structured and portrait like, typically capturing images of baby in a variety of wraps, poses and props.  It takes a lot of work to get the baby into the "right" position and posing is really important.  Baby Safety is always critical but it is especially so in these sorts of shoots because you are posing the baby in particular ways so making sure your photographer has been properly trained and is experienced is critically important.  These regular sessions can also include mom and dad (siblings are a small additional charge) and are slightly more traditional than a lifestyle shoot.  You can always ask for lifestyle images in your shoot and we will be happy to accommodate your given time.   As a photographer, these sessions include a lot more preplanning and props, lighting, beanbags etc and they are typically much longer than a lifestyle shoot.

What is a Lifestyle Photo Shoot in your own home?

A Lifestyle Photo Shoot is simply a more casual photo session shot in your own home. It is not about the pose as much as it is about the feel.  These sessions tend to look more documentary in style and can showcase families snuggling on the bed or reading a book in the nursery.  I especially love these sessions because they are so relaxed....I think of it as telling a story of mom & dad and their new baby, in the first few days of this child’s life – in their home environment.  We work together to create a fun and festive environment by tickling your kids, playing with your children, reading them a book, even eating snack or taking a bath.  Anything goes during a Lifestyle Photo Shoot because it is your home and it is your story and I love to get creative!  Here are some sample photos of a lifestyle newborn shoot with just mom and dad as well as a few with some siblings... see, aren't they relaxed and simple?
